Careers
As soon as I set foot on a garbage or recycling truck, I took pride in what I did, knowing that I was helping the community clean up. I know that what I did is going to keep these drivers safe. It just feels great. It is a physical job but it leaves you satisfied at the end of the day. Our goal is to be the premier solid waste company in the United States. Whether you're viewing us by profitability or employee satisfaction or customer satisfaction. On a daily basis I probably have close to 600 to 700 stops and I'm in and out of the truck probably half the time. You work at your own pace, you make sure everything's taken care of and every customer is serviced and is happy. Waste Connections is a company involved in solid waste collection, disposal and recycling. Operating in 26 states throughout the United States. Servicing over 2 million customers. Most of our openings are for drivers and mechanics. Remember that plug problem we had the other day? I was looking in the book and heres the wires we were trying to find, right there. Here at Waste Connections we got a whole lot of different types of vehicles. We have a roll off, front loader, rear loader, container delivery trucks. It's definitely good experience working on all these different types of vehicles. We operate our company on a set of values. Safety is our number one value. Safety's huge, you've got obstacles throughout your day. You know you've got people, kids in neighborhoods. The training at Waste Connection is very good. Safety, customer service, integrity. The company's very big on understanding the values and the keys to success. There is a sense of pride here. Knowing that the truck is out safe, repairs were done right. Sometimes the drivers come up to you and give you a pat on the back. Hey, I had some concerns about my hydraulics from yesterday. The claw wasn't closing as well as I thought it would be. The maintenance guys, they're great. They'll take care of you. The employees here are fantastic. They work together. They're always looking out for each other. The advantage of working for Waste Connections is their decentralized management structure. The decisions are made by local management. Our district manager was on the back of a trash truck when he started and now he runs the entire district. The opportunity for advancement is unreal. We are a company that offers some of the best benefits in the industry. We can provide stability. When the customer walks outside and smiles and waves at you, then it kind of makes your day. The feeling that you get when you know that you've got a job done right is incredible.
